MDR 400
Posted 7/11/05 by Uncle Bob

Good morning to all!

This is a pre-race report on this weekends MDR 400 in Lucerne. The race is off Bessemer Mine Rd. about 10 miles east of the town of Lucerne on the 247.

Our plans have been changing on a daily basis on this race do to waiting for answers on certain products for our truck. One of them has been taken care of through the delivery of all our new wheels from Walker Evans Friday night so that problem will be taken care of tonight. The other we are still waiting for an answer on what direction we need to go. It is going to be a HOT desert 400 mile race and the Trans is of our concern if it's going to make it or not. Hopefully it will.

We have moved a few things around behind the cab and relocated the batteries to see if this will help the problem. I am trying to think in a positive mode as I will be the driver of record for this race.

We have been up and down about this race for about 3 weeks now with us receiving an invitation to the Sand Show at the Orange Fair Grounds in San Bernadino for a race Saturday night and running the 400 with the problems we have encountered with things related to the Trans. As I said before about "changing minds", we have opted to take our chances with the 400 because it happens to be a "double points" race and a Bonus is up for grabs for the winner. This made a little more sense to our team to choose the 400 for race of choice. Sorry Tim, we still might make it down there!

We still haven't got the truck fully back together yet but I don't see why there should be a problem. Lloyd will be going out Friday evening with his Motor Coach and I might go either Friday late afternoon with the truck and trailer and go straight to Tech and then out to the track with no pre-run to see what the condition of the track is or leave around 3 Saturday morning and Tech the truck before the race. Either way, we won't know how the track is. I guess that's why we like doing what we are good at. We'll just have to hold back and follow in the dust for the first lap then make our move. LOL

Either way, for those of you who wish to help out Saturday as we might have a limited crew this weekend, please feel free to contact either myself or Lloyd. This race could help us out in the points as we are 12th in points out of 30 in the running with only running 1 race (which we won) of the 3 that have been run this season. We can make up a lot of ground in the points with a good finish at this race. Key word was, "double points race" this can make a big difference in the outcome at the end of the year.

Thanks again everybody for your help and support,
