UBRT Racing wins in Class 1 and takes 2nd overall at the MORE Freedom 250
M.O.R.E. FREEDOM 250 Post Race Report
Posted 7/31/07 by Uncle Bob

Here we are again for the 17th time in 24 races. This time it was in Class 1, the highest of all classes in any of the local series here in California. Team UBRT Racing has chose to run in Class 1 this season for the reasons of the best competition available in the high desert with 13 in Class 1 this race and a total of 92 entries. The team started out with the first race this season with taking a second place in January. Despite a few mechanical issues in race number 2 and 3, race number 4 showed us the way back in to the winners circle. With leading the points chase before this race and gaining a farther lead after this race, the team is very optimistic about the possibilities of our 4th Points Championship in as many years.

UBRT Racing pick up SLIME as a new sponsor this last race and the result were amazing for both parties. In the last race at the Auto Fab 400 in Lucerne on May 27th, the team was subjected to 4 flat tires on the new BFG Projects with one of them being an extreme high speed blowout with taking out the rear brake line and fender. For this race, the Freedom 250 night race, Team UBRT Racing raced on it's used tires and used the SLIME product with the proper amount in each tire as recommended by SLIME on the brutal, rough and rocky Barstow B course with it's 5,060 lb Race Truck. UBRT Racing had absolutely NO tire issues this race. Thank you SLIME for a great product.

Bob Schreiner was at the wheel this race with Lloyd Snyder as co-driver and Nick Cerulle as the Main Pit Captain. What a combination this was. The team was in full race mod this race with an arsenal of main, roaming and remote pit support. The number 70 truck of UBRT Racing started the race in the eighth starting spot when the green flag was dropped. There was a 20 second starting interval between each race vehicle.

On lap 1 at RM 7, Tim Kruger noticed something dragging under the truck and mentioned it looked like a limit strap from the right rear. At the end of lap 2, a pit stop was made for fuel and the determination was made to cut the rest of the strap off and continue. At RM 20 on lap 3, Bob felt a problem in the left front thinking it was a flat and stopped at RM 27 in the middle of the desert and Lloyd got out to find no problems. A pit stop was made at the end of lap 3 to find the problem. Problem found was a bad seal in the Power Steering pump and the loss of all power steering fluid. As they left the pits and made there way to RM 6 on lap 4 they passed the 117 car that was in first place but then a miss in the engine developed. They stopped at the remote pit at RM 20 with Stu Thayer, Nick St George and Tim Bonino to try to find the problem. While stopped, the 117 car passed and regained the lead. Bob and Lloyd chose to leave and run the truck till it either finished or broke. At the end of lap 5, a 38 second pit stop was made for fuel and power steering fluid. Lap 6 was clean and with the great radio work done by all parties all night, the #70 truck new they had a 7 minute lead at RM 20 and paced themselves to a 5 minute lead and the win along with 2nd in the overall field standings for this race.

Hats are off to the entire UBRT Racing team this race for a fantastic job this race. After looking at all the photos from the pre-race, during the race and post race partying till 4 in the morning, we don't know where to begin with all the thank yous. Some where Alan and Eric Vandal, Bob Silva, Jeff Moore, Dan Clark and Ken Kegeel from the 797 team, Wayne Kopanski and Chuck Durban from the 1404 team, Bob's son-in-laws Bobby Nelson and Stu Thayer, Tim Kruger, Tim Bonino, Cameron Sinohui, Brett Carley, Ryan Nolan, Bob's brother Steve Schreiner, Nick St George and everyone else that was there including all the girls, Lloyd's wife and daughter Joyce Snyder and Tess, Bob's daughters Danyelle Thayer and Rochelle Nelson, Bob's mother Betty Schreiner and his grand kids Ashton and Jarren and list list gone on and on. Thanks goes out to all of you for your support!

For a side note, upon cleaning the truck Monday night, Lloyd and Bob decided to find what the miss in the motor was all about. After a thorough inspection and diagnostics, the problem was found. Not the plugs or wires or distributor cap or broken rocker arm or push rod, after pulling the cylinder heads off, it was a sucked intake valve that bent and stuck wide open. Thank goodness that the head of the valve didn't break off and make for a catastrophic failure. No wonder it ran like crap the last half of the race.

A special thanks goes out to Mike Redmond at AV Equipment Rental in Newhall for his donation of the Construction Light Tower that he donated to our team this race along with the last race in Lucerne. Thanks Mike

We also would like to thank Jerry and staff at Camburg for there generous donation of some much needed repair items for the truck. Thanks Camburg!
