M.O.R.E. ORAF 250 Post Race Report
Posted 9/26/07 by Uncle Bob

Welcome to the UBRT Racing report from the MORE ORAF 250 last weekend 09-15-07 at the Lucerne race track. It was a very nice weekend with the exception of the fires in the Big Bear area that produced a smokey cloud cover and the raining of ashes race day. Temp was in the low 80s.

We started out with a relaxing day Thursday at the track and just before dark Perry Flemming showed up in his #738 Class 7S Race Truck. We took the front shocks apart and re-valved them for this track. Friday some of our team started showing up while we were tuning the shocks on Perry's truck. Towards the later part of the afternoon, Nick and Bob took off in the Custom Built 6 seat Polaris Ranger that was built through Hardcore Racing Components for a pre-run of the race course.

Saturday, what a day this was for Team UBRT Racing in Class 1 at the MORE Event. With the stiff competition of racers that showed up for this race like Cameron Steel, Shawn Kincaid and Damen Jeffery's all in there $300,000 plus Trophy Trucks from the SCORE and BITD Series, Team UBRT Racing knew they had there work cut out for them.

With being second off the starting line, Bob and Lloyd paced themselves on the first lap to a blistering 56 minute lap and holding on to second place. Well, when they started the second lap, the team informed them that they were now in first place. They paced themselves with a lap that was just as good even with a pit stop for fuel just before the start/finish line. With problems developing for the competition, the team started their third lap still as the leaders. The third lap was a little slower as a vibration developed which was determined to be a bad u-joint but with a 4 minute pit stop to change the drive shaft, it put the team in forth place by only 60 seconds on corrected time. Starting the forth lap Bob radioed in thanking the team for a quick pit stop and that the truck felt great and that they were on a mission to make up time and regain the lead. Well, about Race Mile 6 running 6,000+ rpm in third gear and 105 mph in the sand wash, the motor became silent. Yes, a timing chain failure.

After removing the engine last week and the review of damage that has plagued the team for the last three races with valve train issues, the problem has been found and is believed to be resolved. The new motor was installed last evening and plans are to fire it up on Thursday evening. The team went into this race in first place with a 10 point lead and came out of the race in second place 7 points behind the leader. Put faith in this team because this team will come out blazing in December at the "Holiday 200 Toys for Tots" race Dec 3rd.

Here is a couple of video's I found from this race and Alan's Pics he took:
