MORE Trail-Glow Freedom 250 Post Race Report
Posted 7/25/08 by Uncle Bob
It was in the Mojave Desert at the Barstow's Outlet Center race course that the MORE Trail-Glow Freedom 250 Night race took place this past weekend. It was cooler than it has been in the past years at this race with the high temps in the 105* range and cooling off to very a pleasant 75 at night. The race started at 6:00PM Saturday night on July 19, 2008.
It was with the partnerships of Lloyd Snyder from Hardcore Racing, Nick Cerrule, Jeff Moore from Chassisfab, Paul from Trail-Glow Off Road Lights, Sean Peterson from Peterson Machinery, Joe Bowman from SLIME, Jerry from CAMBURG, Mike Pachwichz and Sean Dunn from Dunn-Tech along with Bob's brother-in-law Larry St George from Chassis Clips that made this race possible. With all the damage sustained from the 2007 season but still receiving it's 2nd place in the year end points chase, the team of UBRT Racing wasn't sure if anyone would ever see the truck on the race track again.
It was with the financial investment and labor from all mentioned above as partners that put this truck back on the race track for it's return with getting Lloyd back into the drivers seat for the first time after his surgery last year from his bout with cancer along with Nick Cerrule as his co-driver.
What a race this was with some 135 total entries and 19 in Class 1 where the team choose to race. There were 6 Trophy Trucks in this class with names like Pistol Pete Sohren from SCORE. Lloyd started in the 17th starting position and the race was 6 laps on the brutal 36 mile Barstow race course for a total of 216 miles.
Lloyd started off with a great pace passing numerous race vehicles in class and lapped traffic with running 43-44 minute lap times. He then came in for a pit stop for fuel and the upper "Trail-Glow Light's" light bar (which worked flawlessly all night we might say) at the end of lap 3 as the night had started to settle in. At the end of lap 4 they came in for a driver change with Bob getting in as a relief driver. With communication problems do to a bad radio antenna on the truck, Nick was able to relay through the remote pits that there was a drive-shaft issue and to be prepared at main for a replacement drive-shaft when they returned. Bob and Nick pitted at the end of lap 5 for repairs and set a 58 minute lap. On the 6th and final lap they set a 43 minute lap finishing in the 7th position and 8th overall. Not to bad with having to pit for repairs needed and a comeback from so much time away from the drivers seat.
