MORE Balls Out/Camburg 250 Post-Race Report
Posted 3/28/06 by Uncle Bob

Here we are again with the second race of the MORE 2006 season under our belt. We started out by leaving early Thursday morning to make sure that the pit area that we had mark in the snow the week before was still there. Yes, you read that right. There was snow on the ground when I went out on Saturday the week before the race.

Friday Morning Lloyd (my co-driver) and I had gone for our pre-run ride to find a great 50+ mile race course that Jim@MORE had marked for the 170 entries he received and wound up having 139 race cars start this race. Saturday we woke up to cloudy skies with a chance of rain in the forecast and temperatures in the 30's. We had dressed warm with long johns, tee shirts, driver suits and jackets just in case.

Race started at 8:30 with our team taking a rear start. Off we went with the starting being every 15 seconds. As we passed through our c! lass and some of the slower cars in other classes. When we came across the truck that was in second place of Chris Russell, it took about a 1/2 mile to get around him as he was driving a great race. Once we got around Chris we were just about done with the College Loop and starting down the hill when we noticed that the first place truck of Jason Cambell in the Camburg Edge and our Class Sponsor was about 3 minutes ahead. At this point we thought that this was unacceptable to our team and started to run them down. When we got to the inner Hodge road crossing we found after we had gone through that they were down with steering box problems. This was very unfortunate as we feel that they were a truck that would give us a run for our money.

On lap 2 we happen to go through the inner Hodge crossing again to find we had a 5 minute lead on second place and 10 miles later at the outer Hodge crossing we found that our team had missed the th! e real second place truck of Chris Russell to which was really 45 seconds behind us. Now we had to start driving as 12 miles later we were going to have to make a pit stop for fuel. Thank goodness our team was on the ball and got us out in less than a minute with fuel in and all tires checked.

OK, by now you have figured out the typical drama of Team UBRT Racing. We crossed the finish line in FIRST with a 45 minute lead. Yes, all of our class but one did finish the race. The Camburg Edge had there day with not just one steering box replaced but 2 and also a 3rd member gear change on lap 2 at MM45.

I have to speak for the Pro Extreme 1400 Trucks as well as the Pro Modified 1450 Trucks and say thank you to Jerry Zaiden and Jason Cambell of Camburg for the generous1,500.00 contingency they put up for our classes. We also had the advertising company of Blue C put up 1,000.00, a 1! ,000.00 bonus that C T Sales and Auto Parts in Barstow for a total of 3,500.00 in cash along with all the normal contingencies in the MORE series.

I have to say thank you to all of our Sponsors, Co-Sponsors and Contingency Sponsors and without you guys (and gals) we wouldn't do as well as we do. They are...

FLUIDYNE, Total Precision Engines, Hardcore Racing Components, VMP Inc., Mickey Thompson Tires, Camburg Engineering, Lucas Oil, Chassisfab, Jazz Products, Wenco Drivelines, C & J Engineering, Mike's Transmissions, Speedway Engineering, Ron's Rearends, F & L Fuel, King Shocks, K&N Filter, MSD, AutoMeter.
